Upon arrival in Palermo, you and your English speaking tour escort will join your private motorcoach driver for a direct transfer to your 4* Hotel in the Sicani Mountains area. Relax and make yourself comfortable for the remainder of the day. Enjoy your first Sicilian dinner as a group at your hotel.

Your first visit will be in one of the nearby wine cellars of the Sclafani Bagni county, one of the most important wine-growing areas of the islands. Here, you’ll learn about the cultivation, wine varieties and harvest during a comprehensive tour. Afterwards, a walk through the cellar, which is one of the most pioneering in Sicily, completes the morning program. Enjoy a snack with a wine tasting of various D.O.C. (Controlled Designation of Origin) wines. In the afternoon, drive to Mussomeli to visit one of the most beautiful medieval castles in Sicily, the Manfredonia or “Eagle’s Nest”. Built in the 14 th century, this fortress, uniquely built into the rocky peak of a mountain, is an architectural wonder. Dinner at your hotel in the Sicani Mountains area.

Drive along the Platani River where you’ll find Sicily’s “Cheese Street”. Numerous dairy farms line the river in the Tumarrano valley where you’ll stop at one to learn about the secrets of Sicilian cheese. Afterwards, taste the farm’s delicacies: fresh ricotta, mozzarella and primo sale – a Sicilian sheep milk cheese meaning “first salt”, along with fresh country bread and a glass of wine. Next, enjoy the drive through the Sicani Mountains park to visit the 17 th century Hermitage of Santo Stefano di Quisquina. It’s here where Saint Rosalia, the patron saint of Palermo, spent her life during her escape from her family and oppressors. In the afternoon, you’ll visit a small yet refined wine cellar, which has the oldest hybrid of Nero D’Avola. Listen to the interesting history and taste the noble blood of the grapes. Travel to Agrigento – “the most beautiful city of the mortals…” as defined by Pindar and home of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, The Valley of the Temples. Experience the world of Ancient Greece in Sicily by visiting the Temple of Heracles, Temple of Concordia, Temple of Zeus, Temple of Juno and the Temple of Castor and Pollux. Drive along the southern coast via the city of Sciacca en route to Marsala for an estimated arrival in the late afternoon. Dinner at your hotel/winery in the Marsala area.

Your day begins with a visit to Mozia, an ancient Phoenician and later Greek civilization located on San Pantaleo Island, just 1 km off the coast. See the region’s famous salt flats before crossing by boat and strolling through these fascinating archaeological excavations. Afterwards, you will make a visit to one of the top two leading Marsala wine producers in the world – Florio or Pellegrino (based on availability). Enjoy the exquisite Marsala wine with a tasting of 3 D.O.C. varieties. Continue on to Erice, known as Monte San Giuliano until 1934, at an altitude of approximately 750 meters. Views of Trapani, the Aegadian Islands and Monte Cofano from here are breathtaking. Walk through Erice’s narrow streets and admire the Church of Santa Maria dell’Assunta, the massive city walls and the Pepoli Castle. You’ll next stop at a local pasticceria ‘pastry shop’ and enjoy the extensive tasting. Dinner is served at your hotel/winery in the Marsala area.

Drive to Selinunte – the westernmost of ancient Greece’s colonies in Sicily and today’s largest archaeological park in Europe. Overlooking the Mediterranean, you’ll explore the Acropolis, the Eastern Temple group (including the mighty Temple of Hera) and the 40 hectare landscape surrounding the temples. Depart for the port city of Mazara Del Vallo, home to the largest fishing fleet in Italy. Share a special group lunch at a local restaurant that includes a 3-course menu, 1/2 liter of water and ¼ liter of wine per person. Return to your hotel/winery in the Marsala area where you’ll later have dinner.
