Departure from the United States on your overnight flight to begin your Pilgrimage to Assisi, Orvieto & Rome tour.
Upon arrival in Rome, you will be met by your English speaking tour escort. Your private motorcoach driver will transfer you north through the scenic hills of Umbria to arrive in Assisi, the hill town sanctified by St. Francis of Assisi. Relax and make yourself comfortable for the remainder of the day at your 4* hotel. Just prior to your welcome dinner at your hotel, there will be a celebration of Holy Mass in a chapel near your hotel.
Breakfast included at your hotel. Begin your day with a celebration of Holy Mass at the Tomb of St. Francis in the Basilica of St. Francis. After mass, your English speaking local guide will begin a tour of the Basilica which was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000. Learn about the magnificent frescoes painted by Giotto that depict the life of St. Francis. Embark on a walking pilgrimage tour through Assisi to the Piazza del Comune and the Temple of Minerva. This Roman temple was built in the 1st century BC and dedicated to Minerva, the goddess of wisdom. Since 1539, it’s been The Basilica of Saint Mary Above Minerva and is decorated in the Baroque style. Continue to the Chiesa Nuova (New Church) which was built on the birthplace of St. Francis. Finally, a short walk will bring you to the Basilica of St. Clare where you will see the original San Damiano Cross. It was while praying before this cross that St. Francis received the Lord’s command to “Rebuild my Church”. The Basilica also houses the crypt of St. Clare where you can view her “incorrupted” remains. After your walking tour, please enjoy the remainder of your day at leisure to explore the rest of Assisi with lunch and dinner on your own.
Breakfast included at hotel. Depart from your hotel with your private motorcoach and English speaking guide for a Private Mass followed by a tour of the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels. Inside the Basilica, see the Porziuncola, the small chapel in which St. Francis accepted his vocation and the Franciscan order was created. Travel through the beautiful Umbrian countryside to Orvieto, the unique town perched high above the valley on large volcanic stone. The stunning Orvieto Cathedral, built in the 13th century, houses the cloth attributed to the Eucharistic Miracle. The San Brizio Chapel, within the Cathedral, houses some of the most magnificent frescoes from the Renaissance. The frescoes depicting heaven and hell rival those found in The Vatican’s Sistine Chapel. Enjoy a group lunch in a local Orvieto restaurant, followed by free time to explore the town. Travel continues to Rome, the Eternal City, where you will have a group dinner at your hotel after checking in.
Breakfast included at hotel. Depart from your hotel with your private motorcoach for a morning at The Vatican – the center of Catholicism. Celebrate Holy Mass at the Basilica of St. Peter, the burial site of St. Peter and one of the greatest examples of Renaissance architecture. You might have the opportunity to participate in the Angelus Prayer with the Holy Father. Enjoy a group lunch at a local restaurant in Rome. The remainder of the day is at your leisure to explore Rome. Dinner is on your own.

Depart from your hotel with your private motorcoach for a celebration of Holy Mass at the Basilica of St. Lawrence Outside the Walls, one of the seven pilgrimage churches of Rome. Enjoy a group lunch at a local restaurant before an afternoon tour of Rome. Your English speaking guide will introduce you to the Minor Basilica of St. Lawrence in Lucina, the famous Trevi Fountain, the Minor Basilica of St. Lawrence in Damaso and the Baroque-styled Piazza Navona. Return to your hotel for dinner and free time in the evening.
Breakfast included at hotel. Depart from your hotel with your private motorcoach and your English speaking guide for a tour of The Vatican Museum and ancient Rome. Tour the treasures of the Vatican Museum, including the awesome frescoes by Michelangelo in the Sistine Chapel. Learn more about the Basilica of St. Peter with an in depth visit and guided tour. Enjoy a group lunch at a local restaurant before an afternoon walking tour of ancient Rome. Walk the same pathways as ancient Romans did while you discover the Colosseum (view from the outside), the Roman Forum and the famous Piazza Venezia. Finally, you’ll visit one of the most illustrious churches in Rome, The Basilica of St. Mary Major for a tour and a celebration of Holy Mass. Under the high altar is the Nativity Crypt containing ancient wood once belonging to Jesus’ manger in Bethlehem. Marvel at the ornate gilded ceiling as well as the beautiful 5th century mosaics that adorn the nave and the apse. You’ll have a chance to go to the upper floor of the Basilica to see the beautiful angels and then view the staircase designed by famous sculptor and architect Bernini. You can then choose to return to your hotel or remain in the city. Dinner on your own.
Breakfast included at hotel. Depart from your hotel with your private motorcoach to attend a Papal Audience at the Basilica of St. Peter with His Holiness Pope Francis.
After the Papal Audience, enjoy a group lunch at a local restaurant. After lunch, drive to the Basilica of St. John Lateran which is the Cathedral Church of Rome and the ecclesiastical seat of the Pope. Admire the Basilica’s richly adorned interior including the Baroque era statues of the Twelve Apostles and the tombs of six former Popes. Return to your hotel for your group dinner this evening.
Breakfast included at hotel. In the afternoon, transfer with your private motorcoach and English speaking guide to the Catacombs of St Callixtus – which once contained the tombs of many Popes from the 2nd – 4th centuries. Afterwards, stop at the Abbey of the Three Fountains. The Abbey comprises of three churches that were built on the place of the martyrdom of Saint Paul and is currently a Trappist monastery. One of those churches, the San Paolo alle Tre Fontane (Saint Paul at Three Fountains), dates back to the 5th century, but was completely modified in 1599. Legend states that when St. Paul was decapitated, his head bounced three times and three fountains miraculously gushed out, hence the name “The Three Fountains”. Please enjoy lunch on your own. After lunch, visit the 4th century Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls, the burial place of Saint Paul, where you’ll celebrate Mass. Return to your hotel and prepare to go out for a Farewell Dinner at a local restaurant including wine, mineral water and music.
